Malik Scott congratulates Deontay Wilder, says left hook did the damage

Malik Scott says it was simply power that beat him last night against Deontay Wilder, and that he absolutely didn't take a dive.

Malik Scott was knocked out in 94 seconds last night by Deontay Wilder, and today congratulated his opponent on the victory, as well as adamantly denying that he took a dive in the fight.

From Scott's Instagram account:

Scott (36-2-1, 13 KO) was indeed accused of the same thing when he was stopped by Dereck Chisora last July. Though Scott was considered a major step up for Wilder last night, I think it's important to remember three things:

  1. Deontay Wilder's a big puncher, period.
  2. Scott was a major step up not because many consider him a top contender, really, but because Wilder has faced such woefully limited opposition for most of his pro career.
  3. Malik Scott's three best opponents in his career have been WIlder, Chisora, and Czar Glazkov. He's 0-2-1 in those fights, stopped by Wilder and Chisora, and while he had a fair argument for the win in his draw against Glazkov, he didn't get the duke there, either.

What I mean to say is, yes, Malik Scott was a step-up for Wilder, but he's also not an elite fighter. That's just the reality of it. He has good boxing skills, but Kevin Johnson always supposedly has a great jab, too, and he loses when he faces good opposition.

Of course, it's not controversial that Scott lost, but the manner in which he lost, and we've gone over that plenty last night and today. There are a number of factors that could potentially be involved, and Scott says it was simple: he got hit on the temple by a powerful guy and couldn't get back up.
