Despite some rumors that Lucas Matthysse would face Fidel Maldonado Jr on the Mayweather-Maidana undercard on May 3, Matthysse's manager Mario Arano has denied the talk, and says that Matthysse is on course to fight on April 26 on Showtime.
"I categorically deny that story that was running all over the social network Twitter, saying that Lucas face Fidel Maldonado on the night when Chino Maidana will fight with Mayweather on May 3 at the MGM Grand in Vegas. All of that is false. We are confident that Lucas will fight of April 26 in Carson, California, against an opponent to be confirmed," said Arano.
Matthysse (34-3, 32 KO) is coming off of a loss to Danny Garcia last September in the main co-feature to Mayweather-Canelo in Las Vegas. The 31-year-old Argentine slugger was recently said to be lined up for a double-header on April 26 in Carson, California, with Keith Thurman in the other co-headline bout.
