With Canelo Alvarez gearing up for a July 26 return, SAProSports.com's Stephen Sanchez is reporting that Canelo could be headed back to San Antonio, as Golden Boy has an application in for a date with the Texas commission for July 26.
Alvarez (43-1-1, 31 KO) would not be fighting at the Alamodome if he does return to San Antonio, however, as the building is booked that night for a convention. That could open the door for the AT&T Arena, home of the San Antonio Spurs, to host the fight, or the bout could be held in Las Vegas, as Canelo's win over Alfredo Angulo was on March 8.
With the Alamodome out, that could make the fight in San Antonio a no-go, since there would probably be more money in Las Vegas for the fight. Canelo drew 40,000 fans for his April 2013 win over Austin Trout at the Alamodome, whereas the AT&T Center has a maximum capacity of 19,000.
