Thomas Dulorme came away with the win, but he probably didn't impress too many viewers, and there's certainly no reason to think he's a world class junior welterweight after his victory over Karim Mayfield tonight on HBO Boxing After Dark.
Dulorme (21-1, 14 KO) had moments of effectiveness where he hurt Mayfield (18-1-1, 11 KO), particularly early in the fight, but for the most part it was a case of Dulorme simply doing a little bit more than his opponent. Along the way, Dulorme clinched an excessive amount and seemed to run out of gas, particularly in the 10th and final round, where he did all he could to avoid action with Mayfield.
Still, the win for Dulorme was pretty clear. Judges had it 98-92, 97-94, and 96-93 (one gets the feeling the latter two were read wrong, and were actually 97-93 and 96-94). BLH had it 96-94.
What did you make of the performances here? Is Dulorme a contender now, or was this a case of two limited guys being matched in a slot that was above their station?
