Alfredo Angulo, like Canelo Alvarez, comes in off of a loss for their Showtime pay-per-view bout on Saturday night from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Like Canelo, Angulo was outboxed by one of the best in the game. Unlike Canelo, Angulo was stopped late in the fight.
Prior to the loss, though, Angulo had given Erislandy Lara all he could handle, putting the tricky Cuban southpaw on the canvas in rounds four and nine. At the time of the stoppage in round 10, Angulo was up 86-83 on one card, and down 85-84 on the other two. It was a close battle with Angulo's relentlessness meeting Lara's craft, a matchup that made for an exciting Erislandy Lara fight, which is not an easy thing to find.
