Orlando Salido: Lomachenko will be world champion in the near future

Orlando Salido handed Vasyl Lomachenko his first pro loss this past Saturday in San Antonio, but the veteran believes the younger fighter is going to be a world champion soon.

Calling Vasyl Lomachenko the best pure boxer he's ever faced, Orlando Salido predicts that vanquished foe Vasyl Lomachenko will win a world title in the not too distant future, somewhere in time and space:

"His work to the body was very good, and he hurt me to the body a few times, but at the end of the day, my vast experience and will to win was the difference in the fight. ... He will be a world champion in the near future. He has the ability to beat a lot of fighters with a little more professional experience. He has nothing to be sorry for, because he gave it his all to win."

I feel much the way Salido does, and I wasn't even the guy getting hit by him last weekend. Lomachenko (1-1, 1 KO) has special ability, both natural and honed in the gym and throughout his incredible amateur career. There are a lot of featherweights I'd pick him to beat -- most of the top guys, actually -- especially now that he's been in with a guy like Salido and learned from that experience, hopefully.
