Jermell Charlo will face Charlie Ota on May 24 in the opening bout of a Showtime triple-header, headlined by WBC and Ring Magazine middleweight champion Adonis Stevenson facing mandatory challenger Andrzej Fonfara. In the co-feature, David Lemieux will face Fernando Guerrero in a 10-round middleweight bout.
Charlo (23-0, 11 KO) is often considered the "lesser" of the twin 154-pound prospects out of Houston, as Jermall has been seen as the better of the two fighters. But it's certainly not to say that Jermell isn't a good prospect in his own right. In January, he routed Gabriel Rosado.
Ota (24-1-1, 16 KO) was born Charles Bellamy, but adopted the stage name after moving to Japan, where he's fought all but two of his professional bouts. The 32-year-old has not lost since 2007, and is currently on a 17-fight win streak, and is also a former Japanese and OPBF champion. (See Also: 2011 feature on Charlie Ota)
