The July 12 pay-per-view undercard for Showtime's Canelo Alvarez vs Erislandy Lara bill looks to be coming together, and there are a slate of potentially interesting matchups that are rumored or look confirmed.
The biggest lock for the show appears to be a welterweight bout between former two-division titleholder Devon Alexander and the tough Jesus Soto Karass. Alexander (25-2, 14 KO) lost his last fight in December, dropping the IBF belt to Shawn Porter in Brooklyn, which aired on Showtime. Soto Karass (28-9-3, 18 KO) lost the following weekend in December to Keith Thurman, also on Showtime, but previously in 2013 scored wins over Selcuk Aydin and Andre Berto.
ESPN Deportes is also reporting that Mauricio Herrera (20-4, 7 KO) is likely to return on the card, perhaps against Johan Perez (18-1-1, 12 KO) in a 140-pound bout. Herrera lost a controversial decision to Danny Garcia in Puerto Rico in March, while Perez's last bout was a win over Paul Spadafora in November.
Fight Hype says that the mandatory bout between IBF welterweight titleholder Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO) and Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO) is also possible for the event. That fight is due by July 19, and a purse bid will come up in late May if Golden Boy and Matchroom Boxing can't make a deal.
Super bantamweight titlist Leo Santa Cruz (27-0-1, 15 KO) is also possible for the card, though an opponent has not yet been determined for him.
