Vasyl Lomachenko to get 60 percent of purse against Gary Russell Jr

Vasyl Lomachenko will make 60% of the purse against Gary Russell Jr, if Russell actually goes through with the fight now.

Ed Mulholland-USA TODAY Sports

Due to WBO rules that favor a visiting fighter, Vasyl Lomachenko will make 60% of the purse bid won by Golden Boy Promotions for his fight with Gary Russell Jr, intended to be staged on June 21 in Carson, California. Since Russell, Golden Boy's guy, is an American fighter, he can only make 40% of the purse.

Golden Boy appealed, citing Lomachenko having an address in California, while Top Rank, Lomachenko's promoter, say he still lives in Ukraine. A judge ruled with Lomachenko's side, and now according to ESPN.com, it's not certain that Russell will actually go through with the fight.

Russell (24-0, 14 KO) would be making $420,900, with Lomachenko (1-1, 1 KO) due to make $631,350.

Do you expect Russell to pull out of the fight on the grounds that the risk is not worth the money, even though he would be getting his first world title opportunity? Will Russell's team once again avoid the risk?
