Nathan Cleverly will make cruiserweight debut against Sean Corbin

Nathan Cleverly will have his 200 pound debut against 39 year-old Sean Corbin.

The world has been waiting in anticipation, and now the moment is here. Nathan Cleverly, sitting idle since he was destroyed by Sergey Kovalev this past August, will be making his move up to cruiserweight. His debut opponent? Sean Corbin, who sports a 17-4 (12 KO's) record, and is 39 years of age. Corbin himself was a light heavyweight until 2012 when he ended a two year vacation from the sport to drop a decision to Wayne Braithwaite.

Naturally, promoter Eddie Hearn is excited about Cleverly's move to cruiserweight, and had some things to say about the matchup.

"I can't wait to see Nathan back in action at cruiserweight. Corbin has only been beaten when he has stepped up to top level and will come into the fight with plenty of size and ambition. Nathan must win and look good doing so with so many huge fights just around the corner."

It remains to be seen exactly what huge fights Cleverly will have in his future. He got blown out by Kovalev, and while there isn't much shame in that, it comes off a little desperate to jump up 25 pounds so hastily. And cruiserweight is not exactly known as a hotbed of big fights.

The fight is scheduled to take place on May 17 at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff, Wales.
