Today at 3:00 pm EDT from Rostock, Germany, Juergen Braehmer will defend the WBA "regular" light heavyweight title against hard-hitting Welshman Enzo Maccarinelli in the main event, airing in the UK on BoxNation and in Germany on ARD. BoxNation subscribers can also stream the fight live at LiveSport.TV.
Braehmer (42-2, 31 KO) won the vacant WBA "regular" belt in December by beating then-undefeated fringe contender Marcos Oliveira over 12 rounds, making him officially a two-time light heavyweight world titleholder. Maccarinelli (38-6, 30 KO) has won three straight fights, and the former cruiserweight titlist is looking to become a two-weight champion in this bout.
It's an intriguing matchup on paper, as Braehmer is a solid technician and a solid puncher, while Maccarinelli is a thunderous puncher but one with a leaky defense and a flat-out bad chin. He's been stopped in all six of his losses.
On the undercard
Top heavyweight contender Kubrat Pulev (19-0, 10 KO) will face Ivica Perkovic (20-23, 15 KO) in a stay-busy bout that was just recently added to the card. Pulev is thought to be in line for a shot against Wladimir Klitschko, but hasn't fought since December, and was likely simply tired of sitting on the sidelines. The fight is scheduled for eight but shouldn't see the distance.
Junior middleweight Jack Culcay (16-1, 10 KO) will face Salim Larbi (19-4-2, 7 KO), scheduled for 12 rounds ... 21-year-old Tyron Zeuge (12-0, 6 KO) will face Gheorghe Sabau (10-0, 6 KO) in a 10-round super middleweight fight ... Middleweight Dominik Britsch (28-1-1, 9 KO) takes on Soufiene Ouerghi (6-3, 4 KO) in a tune-up fight set for eight rounds ... 2012 German Olympian Enrico Koelling (12-0, 4 KO) will meet Mirzet Bajrektarevic (8-1, 4 KO) in an eight-round light heavyweight fight ... 24-year-old Welsh prospect Lewis Rees (9-0, 5 KO) will face Renald Garrido (11-7, 2 KO) in an eight-round welterweight bout ... and 21-year-old Welsh middleweight Liam Williams (8-0-1, 3 KO) is matched against Yuri Pompilio (5-8-2, 1 KO) in another eight-round fight.
