Carlos Molina, the IBF junior middleweight titleholder who was jailed prior to a scheduled fight against Jermall Charlo last month, is still being held in custody in Nevada while attorneys work to get a Wisconsin warrant withdrawn, which would still leave him with immigration issues to address.
Molina, 30, was arrested on March 4, four days prior to his scheduled fight, which was of course canceled. The Wisconsin warrant accuses him of failing to register as a sex offender. Meanwhile, there are additional problems with his immigration, as ICE officials say the Mexican-born fighter was deported in 2006. Even if he's released from jail, he'd still have that hanging over his head and needing to be dealt with sometime in the near future.
Molina (22-5-2, 6 KO) reportedly didn't fly to any of his fights for the last eight years, which is why it took authorities so long to catch up with him. He'd settled in Chicago after sneaking back into the United States. Now, his career is obviously on hold, which is really the least of his concerns at the moment.
