Assuming that we get them both on the proposed dates, and let's say you could only buy one of them, what's going to get your money this July? Will it be the July 12 bout between Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara on Showtime pay-per-view, or the July 19 fight on HBO pay-per-view pitting Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Gennady Golovkin?
There are good arguments for both fights, I believe, which is a reflection of something rare: both fights are good ones, and both are solid pay-per-view bouts. Canelo showed he can carry a pay-per-view with Alfredo Angulo in March, or at least that's the early thought. If for some reason it turns out that Angulo did more to sell that fight than some suspect, this one could dip, along with the fact that another, potentially better show is coming just seven days later, and hitting the boxing fans' wallets for another $60.
Again, let's just go with the idea that you can only buy one of the shows. Let's also say they have equal quality and value on the undercard. Which of these fights would you be more likely to buy if you had to choose one or the other, purely on the quality of the main event?
