According to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, both Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley will be making $6 million purses on Saturday night for their HBO pay-per-view rematch, but Top Rank's Bob Arum says that Pacquiao's guarantee is actually $20 million.
As we've said before, this is really not uncommon. I've seen Nevada sheets where fighters from overseas were paid a reported $1. No zeroes missing. $1. They obviously did not make $1 for their fights.
Anyway, the fighters will also get upside money from the pay-per-view depending on how it performs. Arum expects over one million buys. The first fight did 890,000 buys in 2012, and I think this rematch has a much bigger and better story, so Arum could indeed be right, unless Pacquiao's marketability on pay-per-view has truly fallen off.
On the undercard: Ray Beltran ($85,000) vs Arash Usmanee ($80,000); Khabib Allakhverdiev ($250,000) vs Jessie Vargas ($90,000); and Bryan Vasquez ($55,000) vs Jose Felix Jr ($40,000).
