Cotto vs Martinez: Sergio predicts a knockout on June 7

Sergio Martinez believes he's got the edge on Miguel Cotto when they meet on June 7, predicting he'll knock out his foe.

Sergio Martinez hasn't fought since April 2013, but the reigning middleweight champion is highly confident that his conditioning and pace will be the difference maker on June 7 when he faces Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden, and he believes he'll knock out the former three-weight champion.

Martinez, 39, is training in Miami for the fight.

"I expect him to cut the ring and go to the body," Martinez said. "But he is not going to be able to withstand my pressure and busy pace. I will obligate him to fight him at my pace, and it will become uncomfortable for him. He will end up being knocked out. I don't see this fight going the distance."

Cotto, 33, has been stopped twice before, once in 2008 against Antonio Margarito, and again in 2009 by Manny Pacquiao. His other two losses have come by decision to Floyd Mayweather and Austin Trout, both in 2012.

Cotto (38-4, 31 KO) began working with trainer Freddie Roach last year, his fourth trainer since splitting with his uncle Evangelista Cotto five years ago. Roach said he wanted to see Cotto return to the ferocious body attack of his younger days, and he did so with a dominant pounding of Delvin Rodriguez last October.
