Tonight's HBO World Championship Boxing main event from The Forum in Los Angeles is a high-stakes fight between Juan Manuel Marquez and Mike Alvarado, with the winner looking to secure a fight with WBO welterweight titleholder Manny Pacquiao later this year on HBO pay-per-view.
Marquez (55-7-1, 40 KO) will make a $1.4 million purse, according to the California State Athletic Commission, while Alvarado (34-2, 23 KO) has a purse of $650,000. This is probably in line with what most would have expected, with Marquez the fight's A-side and drawing card.
Both fighters are not only looking to land the fight with Pacquiao (56-5-2, 38 KO) for later this year, but also to come back from losses suffered last October. Alvarado was stopped by Ruslan Provodnikov in what turned out to be Alvarado's final fight at 140 pounds, while Marquez was beaten by Timothy Bradley via unanimous decision on pay-per-view in Las Vegas.
