Gennady Golovkin will return to the ring on July 26 on HBO, with no opponent named, as negotiations for a potential super middleweight pay-per-view clash with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr have fallen through.
Golovkin (29-0, 26 KO) will likely be defending his WBA middleweight title in this next fight. The WBA recently named Jarrod Fletcher his mandatory challenger, which is absurd, and Golovkin's team has yet to file for an exception to make an optional defense, but say they are negotiating with promoter Gary Shaw for a much better fight against Daniel Geale.
Geale has said that he does want the fight, after his May 24 bout with Matthew Macklin was canceled. The former IBF and WBA titleholder is in a far different class from Fletcher, and even if Geale would be a heavy underdog, he's the significantly better matchup, and a legitimate world-level contender at 160 pounds.
Will Geale be a good enough opponent for you if that fight can be made? Would you be upset if HBO televises a Golovkin-Fletcher mismatch, even though that's the WBA's ridiculous ruling?
