Tonight's FOX Sports 1 card went pretty much as expected, as Golden Boy Live! continues to be the lousy series that it was feared it would be upon its creation. In the main event, junior middleweight Ishe Smith trounced club fighter Ryan Davis inside of two rounds, with Mickey Bey and Jesus Cuellar winning on the undercard.
Smith (26-6, 12 KO) had no trouble with Davis (24-14-3, 9 KO), a short-notice replacement for Erislandy Lara, who skipped this fight to face Canelo Alvarez on July 12 on Showtime pay-per-view, quite wisely. Davis wasn't really an acceptable replacement, and it's hard to convince anyone that there wasn't a better available opponent out there, but It Is What It Is and all that. The 35-year-old Smith keeps his name out there, got a night of work (sort of), and now he'll look for something bigger. With his management, that should be easy to do.
Bey (20-1-1, 10 KO) outpointed Alan Herrera (32-6, 21 KO) over 10 rounds in their lightweight co-feature, winning on scores of 97-92, 98-92, and 98-92. Bey was dropped in the seventh round, but bounced right back up and continued winning the fight. For the most part, he was able to outclass Herrera.
In the opener, Jesus Cuellar (24-1, 18 KO) came out fast and furious against Rico Ramos (23-4, 12 KO), dropping the former super bantamweight titleholder in the first round. Ramos hung around, but wound up losing on scores of 117-109, 116-110, and 114-112.
