Evgeny Gradovich won a wide 12-round decision today in Macau, retaining his IBF featherweight title with a victory over Alexander Miskirtchian. Gradovich won on scores of 117-110, 117-110, and 118-110. Bad Left Hook had it 118-109 for Gradovich.
Gradovich (19-0, 9 KO) was dropped late in the sixth round by Miskirtchian (24-3-1, 9 KO), but otherwise rather handily outclassed the challenger, as was expected coming into the fight. The 27-year-old "Russian Mexican" won with his normal grind-it-out style. He's not a big puncher and not a particularly exciting guy, but he's also never in downright boring fights, and if anyone's going to beat him, they will have to work for it.
Miskirtchian, a former European champion at 126 pounds, wasn't good enough to be that guy, but it wasn't for lack of effort. He was a game foe and came to win, but just wasn't fit for the level.
Our live coverage continues, with Vic Darchinyan challenging Nicholas Walters for the WBA "regular" featherweight title next, followed by the Donaire-Vetyeka main event.
