Tonight at Midnight EDT on HBO2 and HBO Latino, we'll have a special Boxing After Dark event from Las Vegas, headlined by super featherweight contender Javier Fortuna, who will face streaking Juan Antonio Rodriguez in a 10-round bout from the Tropicana.
Fortuna (24-0-1, 18 KO) has been a bit of a frustrating and inconsistent performer to date, looking some nights like the total package, and others like an overhyped supposed "future star." The 24-year-old Dominican can't afford to sleepwalk tonight, though, as Mexico's Rodriguez (26-4, 23 KO) has big power, which he has displayed in a recent string of wins, following a 2012 loss to Billy Dib.
In the co-feature, featherweight prospect Luis Orlando Del Valle (18-1, 13 KO) looks to continue his comeback trail after a loss to Vic Darchinyan on HBO in 2012. Del Valle, 27, has won twice since then, and in his last fight in January, went to a no-contest with veteran Ira Terry. Del Valle will be facing unbeaten Luis Rosa (16-0, 7 KO) in a 10-round fight. The 23-year-old Rosa is a Puerto Rican-born fighter now based in Connecticut, and this is a big opportunity for both men, obviously.
We'll have live coverage this evening, as we wrap up a big and oddly-spaced morning, day, and night of fights to close the month of May and start the month of June.
