Canelo vs. Lara: Juan Manuel Lopez added to undercard

Juan Manuel Lopez has been added to the Canelo Alvarez - Erislandy Lara undercard in July.

Fresh off his stunning come-from-behind TKO of Daniel Ponce de Leon, Juan Manuel Lopez will be making his return to the ring July 12 on the undercard of the Canelo Alvarez - Erislandy Lara pay-per-view card at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lopez will be taking on undefeated Mexican Francisco "El Bandido" Vargas in defense of his WBO International super featherweight belt.

Peter Rivera, Vice President of PR Best Boxing Promotions, said, "It's offical, Juanma Lopez will fight against Francisco Vargas. This (Lopez vs. Vargas) is a fight in which the winner must have a shot at the WBO world title at 130 pounds. It's another battle between Puerto Rico and Mexico and between two former olympians (Lopez in 2004 and Vargas in 2008)".

Vargas is 19-0-1 (13 KO's), and can fight at a busy pace. His last fight was a decision win over Abner Cotto on the untelevised portion of the Canelo - Alfredo Angulo card. He's 29, and this is clearly a big fight towards pushing his career forward.

Although Lopez won a dramatic fight against Ponce de Leon, let's not forget that he has a chin that resembles pudding. We all figured him to be totally finished after Mikey Garcia blew him away last year, and I think that fight is a more accurate representation of where Lopez truly is with his career. But, as always with a Lopez bout, it will be fun while it lasts.
