With Canelo Alvarez set to meet Erislandy Lara in just four short weeks on Showtime pay-per-view, the trainer for the 23-year-old superstar Alvarez says that his fighter is ready to punish the Cuban southpaw for disrespecting "all Mexicans" in the lead-up to this fight.
Jose "Chepo" Reynoso said that camp is going well (of course), and that his fighter is determined to make what would again be a career-best statement:
"We're not just going to go in looking for the knockout. We're working on all sorts of different situations but if the knockout comes, that's perfect," said Reynoso through Golden Boy Promotions translator Ramiro Gonzalez.
"But we're working so hard so that we can punish Erislandy Lara. We're working on trying to punish Lara. We want to really punish Erislandy Lara. He was talking too much and those comments were not welcome. It was blah, blah, blah and 'Canelo' took it very personal."
South African southpaw Chris Van Heerden has been sparring with Canelo in camp, and says he feels Alvarez has the edge going in, and that he's getting stronger all the time.
Now that we're just a month out from the fight, how do you feel it's going to go?
