Photo: Chad Dawson indisputably not in the best shape of his career

Bad Chad is looking a little like Sad Chad, as the the former light heavyweight champ was in superficially sorry shape at today's weigh-in.

Scott Christ is the managing editor of Bad Left Hook and has been covering boxing for SB Nation since 2006.

Chad Dawson makes his return to the ring tomorrow night with a fight on Showtime Extreme, going on ahead of the main card tripleheader on Showtime, and today he weighed in at just under 183 pounds for a tune-up fight against veteran club fighter George Blades.

To say that Dawson (31-3, 17 KO) wasn't exactly looking in great shape is an understatement:

Compared to the chiseled physique Dawson used to sport as a light heavyweight, this is a world of difference. Fighters always say they're in the best shape of their career, no matter what. I'm pretty sure Dawson can't claim that one going into tomorrow's fight.

Will Dawson, who turns 32 next month, get back to the top of the heap? Obviously, this is not the most serious fight in the world, and it's just getting him back in action. But even considering that, he looks very weak compared to his normal self. If this is how he's approaching his comeback, expectations probably took a hit today.
