Cotto vs Martinez: Freddie Roach says Sergio 'has nothing left'

Freddie Roach says that Sergio Martinez is a "ruined" fighter, and that Miguel Cotto will finish him on Saturday.

Trainer Freddie Roach is known for his big talking boasts ahead of his fighters' outings, and with Miguel Cotto hitting the ring on Saturday night against Sergio Martinez, Roach has not only predicted that Cotto will knock out Martinez in four rounds and win the middleweight championship, but he also says Sergio "has nothing left."

"Sergio is in over his head on this one. We worked on fighting southpaws and have it down to a science now. Miguel will have no trouble with Sergio's style. Working opposite Miguel with Manny Pacquiao gave me great insight to Miguel's flaws," said Roach.

"It taught me his weaknesses and during this camp I was able to eliminate them. The wear and tear of the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight ruined Martinez. He has nothing left. Miguel is the fresher fighter."

If Roach is right, and Martinez (51-2-2, 38 KO) is a shot fighter, it's going to be hard to give Cotto (38-4, 31 KO) a ton of credit for beating a 39-year-old guy who is, in the words of Cotto's trainer, "ruined." Like, what does it prove if Roach is correct? That they were able to properly pick a finished opponent for big money? Hooray?

This is the sort of trash talk I never really understand.
