Tonight at 10:00 pm EDT, immediately following ESPN Friday Night Fights, FOX Sports 1 is back with another Golden Boy Live! fight night, featuring lightweight Mercito Gesta in the main event, as he looks to get his career back on track.
Gesta (27-1-1, 15 KO) is a 26-year-old Filipino southpaw who drew (absurd) comparisons to Manny Pacquiao based mostly on being a Filipino southpaw, before he was made to look downright foolish by Miguel Vazquez in December 2012 on a Pacquiao undercard, his first and thus far only world title shot.
After missing all of 2013, Gesta returned to the ring in April, stopping veteran journeyman Edgar Riovalle in the eighth round in San Diego. Tonight in San Francisco, he faces another aging stepping stone type in Mexico's Luis Arceo (28-12-4, 18 KO), who is coming off of a TKO-3 loss to prospect Jose Zepeda last October.
In the co-feature, junior welterweight prospects Emmanuel Robles (10-0-1, 3 KO) takes on Jonathan Chicas (13-1, 6 KO) in a bout set for eight rounds, and given those KO rates, probably going eight rounds. (This is my way of trying to voodoo wish a five-round, all-action war.)
