Rios vs Chaves: Immigration issue could postpone Saturday's HBO fight

Diego Chaves can't get to the United States due to an immigration issue, and his fight with Brandon Rios may be postponed.

An immigration backlog could prevent part of Saturday's HBO card from taking place, as Diego Chaves is stuck in Argentina, and has not yet been able to travel to Las Vegas for his welterweight clash with Brandon Rios.

Chaves (23-1, 19 KO) and Rios (31-2-1, 23 KO) are expected, if the fight happens, to have an action packed showdown as part of HBO's split-site triple-header. Also on the bill, Jessie Vargas defends his 140-pound title against Anton Novikov in Vegas, and Sergey Kovalev defends his light heavyweight belt against Blake Caparello in Atlantic City.

The good news is that there are probably a few days for Chaves to get this settled, but this a pretty serious issue, and if he can't get to Vegas by Tuesday, one would have to expect he might have to pass this fight up. It's a pretty long trip from Argentina to Vegas, and traveling any closer to the fight might not be advisable.

If the fight is lost for now, it may only be temporary, and the bout could be rescheduled shortly. But it's a waiting game for the moment.
