Tonight beginning at 7:00 pm EDT on Showtime Extreme and continuing at 9:00 pm EDT on Showtime, Golden Boy Promotions and Showtime Sports present a night of world title boxing, with three title fights on the card, plus America's most notable heavyweight prospect also in action.
On Showtime Extreme, big Deontay Wilder (31-0, 31 KO) looks to continue his knockout streak against Jason Gavern (25-16-4, 11 KO) in what is not expected to be a competitive fight at all, more a stay-busy bout for Wilder, who was targeting a mandatory world title opportunity against Bermane Stiverne, only for Stiverne to pull out due to injury.
Also on SHO Extreme, lightweight contender and former 126 and 130 pound titlist Jorge Linares (36-3, 23 KO) will face Ira Terry (26-11, 16 KO) in another fight that figures to be little trouble for the favorite, though with Linares' chin, bets are generally off.
There are two scheduled swing fights for SHO Extreme, too, time permitting (and likely, time will permit). Lydell Rhodes (21-0, 10 KO) will face John Nater (13-6, 10 KO) in an eight-round junior welterweight bout, while Ireland's Jason Quigley (1-0, 1 KO) returns to action following his July 12 pro debut, facing Fernando Najera (1-3) in a four-round middleweight bout.
On the main Showtime Championship Boxing card, things will kick off at 9:00 pm EDT with Omar Figueroa (23-0-1, 17 KO) defending the WBC lightweight title against Daniel Estrada (32-2-1, 24 KO) in a fight that could be a sleeper -- this could be a terrific action fight, and there's also a fair chance of an upset here.
The second fight will see Sakio Bika (32-5-3, 21 KO) defend the WBC super middleweight title against Anthony Dirrell (26-0-1, 22 KO) in a rematch of their December 2013 draw.
And the main event will see Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KO) put his IBF welterweight title on the line against England's Kell Brook (32-0, 22 KO).
