Jorge Linares stops Ira Terry in two rounds, moves on to possible world title shot

Jorge Linares had no trouble and wasted no time tonight, smashing Ira Terry in two rounds on Showtime Extreme.

Jorge Linares picked up an easy second round TKO victory over Ira Terry tonight at the StubHub Center, kicking off the Showtime-televised portion of the card on Showtime Extreme. The best news for Linares is that he took no punishment, suffered no cuts, and the tune-up stayed a tune-up, as designed.

Terry started with some energy in round one, but that was before he got hit. Linares found some success with the old two-piece, landing a couple of good right hands, and hurt Terry in the final minute of the round. Terry did manage to find some real estate and survive the round, but he wasn't looking particularly enthsuiastic going back to the corner.

In round two, Linares used that confidence he picked up down the stretch in the previous frame, going on the attack. He clipped Terry with a left hook that sent him backwards, and shortly after finished with a devastating right hand, landed as Terry was open on his own offensive effort. The shot struck Terry right on the cheekbone, and dropped him. The referee called the fight off immediately without a count, and his TV microphone caught a downed Terry moaning in pain.

Linares (37-3, 24 KO) now likely moves on to a lightweight title shot, as he looks to pick up a world title in his third division. For Terry (26-12, 16 KO), this was just another payday, as he was sent in to lose to keep a product busy, and nothing more.
