Josesito Lopez opened up tonight's long FOX Sports 1 boxing card with a win over Rafael Cobos, notching his third straight victory after a pair of losses to Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Maidana in 2012-13.
"The Riverside Rocky" wasn't exactly impressive tonight, though he swept our card, winning an eight-round shutout on a score of 80-72, and official cards were the same, 80-72 across the board.
Lopez (33-6, 19 KO) labored through the bout a bit, never putting Cobos (15-5-5, 3 KO) in any danger. It was a clear physical mismatch, and the best hope here is that Lopez, now 30 and sporting a beard, was trying to get in rounds before a bigger fight to close 2014.
The name being passed around right now is Amir Khan, with that fight possible for December. Khan (29-3, 19 KO) last fought on May 3, routing Luis Collazo in his welterweight debut. Khan, of course, is still hoping for a May 2015 fight with Floyd Mayweather, or a potential 2015 fight with Manny Pacquiao.
What did you think of Lopez tonight?
