Good fights, bad fights, and everything in between. If you're an optimist then tonight could have represented the entire spectrum of the pugilistic experience. If, however, you are an average fight fan, you're probably a little disappointed by certain aspects of this Showtime pay-per-view, which culminated in an impressive, if somewhat frustrating rematch between Marcos Maidana and Floyd Mayweather.
The undercard was somehow the most Top Rank of all Top Rank undercards, despite happening under the Mayweather and Golden Boy promotional banners. A quick and wholly predictable knockout for Leo Santa Cruz was preceded by quite possibly the worst high-profile fight of the year, a lightweight title tilt between Mickey Bey and Miguel Vargas that saw Bey win an incredibly controversial decision. And before that we saw, if not the end of Alfredo Angulo's career, certainly the end of his run as a top boxer.
