Leo Santa Cruz: We're going to push for Rigondeaux until they make it happen

Leo Santa Cruz was happy with his easy win over Manuel Roman, and says he'll push to fight Guillermo Rigondeaux.

On his happiness with his performance

"I was very happy with the work in the gym. We trained really hard, because we knew we had to look good in this fight because they weren't giving that much credit to my opponent. So we had to finish him like that so they wouldn't say, oh, he couldn't finish him, or something like that. We did what we had to do, and I was happy."

On whether or not he was surprised by the early KO

"Yeah, I was, because when I used to spar with him, he used to give me a lot of trouble. He used to have good punches and everything. The thing is, I've got some great experience. It's been two years already. The hard work we did in the gym paid off."

On his conditioning and what he could have shown if the fight lasted

"We worked with my strength and conditioning coach. We worked really hard on different things. We worked on power, and it showed in the fight."

"I was in great condition. I could throw a lot of punches. Be active. Stay on top of him, break him down, win a decision."

On Guillermo Rigondeaux and his next fight

"We're going to be pushing for that fight -- pushing and pushing until they make it happen. Hopefully, i want to come back in December or January. I think I'll be ready by that time. Maybe January, past Christmas and Turkey Day. Maybe in January, I'll be ready by then."
