Heavyweights Tony Thompson and Odlanier Solis will meet in a rematch on October 18 in Düsseldorf, Germany, as Solis looks for revenge for a March loss to Thompson, while Thompson tries to rebound from a June defeat to Carlos Takam.
Thompson (39-5, 26 KO) got a new lease on his career thanks to a pair of wins over David Price in 2013, and has gone 1-2 since, beating Solis and losing to Takam and Kubrat Pulev. Solis (20-2, 13 KO) hasn't fought since his loss to Thompson, and the 34-year-old Cuban's pro career has without question been a disappointment to date. A win over Thompson could conceivably at least keep him in the race, even if he'd still be trailing the pack.
Thompson, 42, is simply looking to hang on, possibly gain another world title shot (he's had two, both losses to Wladimir Klitschko), and keep himself viable for decent paydays in Europe. Obviously, it's a favorable matchup for him to achieve that, given he's beaten Solis already.
The fight will be promoted by Ahmet Öner.
