Joe Gallagher: Paul Smith can catch and nullify Abraham

Joe Gallagher believes Paul Smith has a good chance this Saturday against Arthur Abraham.

Trainer Joe Gallagher has a big ask in front of him as he's preparing Paul Smith for a challenge against WBO super middleweight titleholder Arthur Abraham this Saturday in Germany. The veteran trainer knows his fighter is the underdog, but says he's seen things that Smith can use to pull the upset:

"If you go to my laptop there are five tabs open and each one has a old fight of Abraham's on it," Gallagher said. "There's the Jermain Taylor fight, the Andre Ward fight, the Robert Stieglitz fight, his last fight and another Stieglitz fight."

... "I've looked at the best Arthur Abraham when he prepared for fights with Jermain Taylor and Andre Ward and Carl Froch - that is what we have been training for.

"But then you watch him when he's not been at his best and you start to think ‘you know what, we might be able to do this'. It doesn't seem so much of a mission impossible and Paul is getting off the shots I feel will catch Abraham and nullify him."

Smith (35-3, 20 KO) has come up well short in his two biggest fights against James DeGale and George Groves, a pair of stoppage losses where he was totally dominated. The question is whether or not Abraham (40-4, 28 KO), at 34, can be beaten by a level of opponent he's always defeated in the past.

Do you think Smith has a chance on Saturday, or is this a no-hope title shot?
