Everyone was on their best behavior today at the weigh-in for tomorrow night's Showtime tripleheader from Cincinnati, and the six main card fighters made weight for their bouts in a smooth event that went just as everyone would have hoped, though yesterday's choking incident and the week of trash talking made for a fairly tense event, too.
Adrien Broner (28-1, 22 KO) came in at the division limit of 140 pounds for his fight with Emmanuel Taylor (18-2, 12 KO) in the main event. Underdog Taylor weighed in at 138½. Broner, returning to his hometown for a fight for the first time since beating Vicente Escobedo in 2012, is a 12-to-1 favorite.
Lucas Matthysse (35-3, 33 KO) will face unbeaten but untested Roberto Ortiz (31-0-1, 24 KO) in the co-feature. Matthysse, a 10-to-1 favorite, is hoping to rematch Danny Garcia with a win tomorrow night. Matthysse weighed in at 139, with Oritz at 139½.
The opening fight of the broadcast will see the return of former welterweight titleholder Andre Berto (28-3, 22 KO), who has been out since a July 2013 loss to Jesus Soto Karass, which was followed by shoulder surgery and rehab. He'll be making his debut with trainer Virgil Hunter, too. Berto is listed at a wild 100-to-1 to win. He weighed in at 148½, with opponent Steve Upsher Chambers (24-3-1, 6 KO) at +1600 and weighing in at 145½.
