Josesito Lopez and Andre Berto will headline the first Haymon Boxing card on Spike TV on March 13 from the StubHub Center, and it's a matchup that promises fireworks even without the magic of its venue. With it, who knows? We could be talking about a Fight of the Year contender.

Lopez (33-6, 19 KO) says he's looking to use this fight against the former titleholder to take the next step in his career:

"When you get right down to it, it comes down to the match-ups and I think that this fight with Berto is just perfect for me. I don't think that it can get any better for me than Berto. Thinking about it just gives me an extra burst of energy. This is the fight that will elevate me to that next level."

The 30-year-old "Riverside Rocky" has quietly won three straight fights after back-to-back punishing losses to Canelo Alvarez and Marcos Maidana in 2012-13, settling in as a welterweight with victories over Mike Arnaoutis, Aaron Martinez, and Rafael Cobos.

Berto, meanwhile, has overcome losing in three of four fights and struggles with shoulder injuries to get himself back into a main event. He fought once in 2014, beating Steve Upsher Chambers in September, and now the 31-year-old brawler will try to score his first significant win since 2011, when he beat Jan Zaveck.

Berto (29-3, 22 KO) and Lopez are both reliable action fighters and this is a matchup that works on paper. Maybe it's not an elite-level welterweight fight, but this is a fight that is, as Lopez says, perfect, and that goes for both guys. They both need a win over a decent name to get back into the race at 147 pounds, and this is the fight that can push them forward.
