Gilberto Ramirez scored a solid step-up win tonight on HBO from Broomfield, Colorado, beating Maxim Vlasov by ten-round unanimous decision on scores of 96-94, 97-93, and 97-93. BLH had it 97-93 for Ramirez.
Ramirez, a hot 23-year-old prospect in the super middleweight division, had some major flaws exposed by the capable and game Vlasov, who landed a lot of straight right hands on the young southpaw. But Ramirez's activity and strong body work propelled him to the victory, with no argument about the result, and solid scoring from the judges.
Ramirez (31-0, 24 KO) landed 179 of 631 total punches (28%), and he was well into the triple digits on his body shots, as Vlasov (30-2, 15 KO) sort of left that open for him. Vlasov landed at the same connect rate of 28%, scoring on 115 of 411 total punches.
What did you think of Ramirez tonight? Did he look like the A-list prospect he's been hyped as, or was there something missing?
