Oscar De La Hoya has announced that talks are now underway for a fight between Rigo and Santa Cruz.

In an interview with RingTV, Oscar has been quoted as saying that discussions to stage a bout between Guillermo Rigondeaux and Leo Santa Cruz "are underway."

"Hopefully, we can put together what would arguably be one of the best fights of the year with Leo Santa Cruz versus Guillermo Rigondeaux, so talks are underway," said De La Hoya. "We're in preliminary talks and they've started. That's a fight that Leo has been asking for and that's a fight that Rigondeaux has been asking for, so that's something that we want to deliver to the fans."

"It would have to be after May, sometime in June or July. We haven't thought about the site or where the fight would take place as of yet," said De La Hoya. "That would be a perfect Las Vegas fight or I would love to take it to San Antonio or even here at the Staples Center [in Los Angeles.] That would be a great Staples Center fight."

What can I really say about this - it's sounds like good fight, but it's one that Leo has had wavering opinions on in the recent past. At different times he has said that he wanted the fight with Rigo (and that he wasn't scared of him) to brushing him off by saying he wasn't an interesting opponent. Now he apparently wants the fight again, though I'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with fans ridiculing him for seemingly trying to steer clear of the division's best.

You might have also read me previously stating that this style match-up between the two is all wrong for Leo, and I vehemently stand by that position. I'm always up for the best fighting the best in every division, but in this case, I honestly can't see anything other than one-way traffic, favoring Rigo. I'd certainly still watch the fight though, and in spite of my personal feelings that it wouldn't be all that competitive, I commend Oscar for trying to deliver for the fans...
