Kevin Mitchell and Daniel Estrada meet today at the O2 Arena in London, with a vacant WBC trinket on the line, as well as a potential world title shot in the near future, as the two lightweights look to score a strong win and get into the mix at 135 pounds.

Mitchell (38-2, 28 KO) will have home field against Mexico's Estrada (32-3-1, 24 KO) in a matchup that has pretty good action potential and could be a sleeper fight to end a slow but eventful January for the sport. The 30-year-old Mitchell has won five straight fights since a pasting at the hands of Ricky Burns in September 2012. None of the victories have come against top contenders, though his last fight -- a win over Ghislain Maduma in May 2014 -- was supposed to be an IBF eliminator, only for Mitchell to miss overnight weight gain limits by two pounds, removing the mandatory title shot from the win.

Estrada, 29, lost his last fight to Omar Figueroa, the WBC lightweight titleholder, on August 16. Figueroa and Estrada went toe-to-toe in an entertaining fight, with Figueroa scoring a ninth round knockout.

Also on today's card:

  1. Tommy Martin (10-0, 3 KO) vs Ricky Boylan (12-1, 4 KO), junior welterweights, 10 rounds
  2. John Ryder (19-1, 11 KO) vs Billi Godoy (31-3, 15 KO), middleweights, 12 rounds
  3. John Wayne Hibbert (14-2, 8 KO) vs Tyler Goodjohn (11-3, 4 KO), junior welterweights, 10 rounds
