Golovkin vs Lemieux: Shane Mosley says Lemieux not on GGG's level

Shane Mosley doesn't see David Lemieux as being on the same level as Gennady Golovkin, Miguel Cotto, or Canelo Alvarez. At least not yet.

Former three-division world titleholder Shane Mosley was asked recently about the middleweight scene, as we've got two big fights coming up with Gennady Golovkin taking on David Lemieux on Saturday night, and Miguel Cotto facing Canelo Alvarez in November.

The veteran fighter says that IBF titleholder Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO) has not yet proven himself to be on the level of the other three, though he has that chance on Saturday night.

"I don't know. They have to fight it out and see. All those guys are good. I'm not sure if Lemieux is in the same category as GGG, Cotto, and Canelo," Mosley told FightHub. "Lemieux is a good fighter, but I'm not sure he's on that level yet. We'll see when he fights GGG. But I think that all four of those guys are great middleweight fighters."

As for who he would have liked to see in this potential mini-tournament at 160 pounds, Mosley offered Peter Quillin as his choice for a fourth over Lemieux.

"I actually would have to throw Kid Chocolate in there," he said. "If it was me, I would have Kid Chocolate, GGG, Canelo, and Cotto. Those would be the four that I would put in there. But Lemieux, he's got to prove himself when he fights GGG."

Mosley, 44, recently returned to action with a dominant win over old rival Ricardo Mayorga in August, and is currently looking to secure a fight with either Ruslan Provodnikov or Chris Algieri. He's also gotten into a bit of a Twitter spat with newly-crowned WBO junior middleweight titleholder Liam Smith.
