Terry Flanagan and Liam Smith just got done putting on a big night for British boxing on October 10, and now both world titleholders will return to the ring on December 19, when Andy Lee finally faces Billy Joe Saunders in the main event in Manchester. BoxNation will televise in the United Kingdom, with Frank Warren promoting his annual "Christmas Cracker" event.
Flanagan and Smith were supposed to be undercard fights beneath the Lee-Saunders bout last Saturday, but when that fight was postponed a second time, the card went ahead with those two in the spotlight. Flanagan demolished Diego Magdaleno in two rounds to defend his WBO lightweight belt, with Smith stopping John Thompson in the seventh to win the vacant WBO junior middleweight title.
Flanagan (29-0, 12 KO) and Smith (21-0-1, 11 KO) don't yet have opponents named, but the two will be defending their titles.
Also set for action on the undercard will be Paul Butler (19-1, 10 KO), the former British and Commonwealth super flyweight and IBF bantamweight titleholder, as well as junior welterweight prospect Jack Catterall (13-0, 8 KO).
