Gary O'Sullivan: Eubank Jr living off his father's name

Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan also finds it a bit absurd that Chris Eubank Jr and his dad are talking about Gennady Golovkin, and says without his name, Eubank Jr would not be where he is in boxing.

Chris Eubank Jr returns to action on Friday in Sheffield, making his Matchroom Boxing debut in what should be an easy night against aging American club fighter Tony Jeter, but the bigger fight on the horizon for Eubank is a December matchup with Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan.

Still, Eubank (19-1, 14 KO) seems to be looking past not just his no-brainer win over Jeter, but even past O'Sullivan, a tougher foe, though one that Eubank would also be expected to handle with little trouble. Gennady Golovkin is the fighter on the minds of both Eubank and his father, but O'Sullivan finds the "arrogance" of the younger Eubank off-putting, and says he's been given preferential treatment over his pro career.

From Sky Sports:

"I think he's an arrogant guy and he's living off his father's name. I don't think he's as good as his father and he's got a big high profile. If he didn't have the name Chris Eubank, he wouldn't be where he is - no chance. If he was called Pat Murphy, he'd be nowhere near where he is now."

O'Sullivan (22-1, 15 KO) fought on October 10 in Boston, easily beating David Toribio via second round knockout. The Irish fighter's highest profile date was a virtual shutout loss to Billy Joe Saunders in 2013. Eubank's only loss also came to Saunders, in 2014, but was far more competitive. For what it's worth, Saunders also finds it ludicrous that the Eubanks are talking up a potential GGG fight, and really, it is. Eubank's best pro win to date came in February against Dmitry Chudinov. But it does give Eubank some media attention, and perhaps that is the only real goal here.
