After all this time, it seems like they're finally making progress.

Last week, Cyclone Promotions CEO Barry McGuigan told irish-boxing.com that talks for Carl Frampton vs. Scott Quigg were "further along than ever." Quigg's trainer, Joe Gallagher, seemed to confirm that yesterday to ESPN.

Via ESPN:

"There has been lots of talks over the last couple years but finally it looks like it will happen," Gallagher told ESPN.

"There will be lots of trash talk, lots of hype and lots of build up. It will be an event, and it's the British equivalent to Erik Morales-Marco Antonio Barrera.

"I'm hearing they are talking about February 20 or February 27 and it will be the biggest fight of the year. The fighters won't care where it is once the bell goes but if it's at the Manchester Arena they split it half way for the fans."

Frampton (21-0, 14 KOs) and Quigg (31-0-2, 23 KOs) have fought a combined three times in 2015, presumably spending their free time running the hell away from Guillermo Rigondeaux.

After so many false starts, it's tough to be hopeful, but this would be an absolutely cracking fight. Who takes it, and does either man have the stones or skills to beat "El Chacal?"
