Tonight at 9:00 pm EST on Bounce TV and streaming live at BounceTV.com, Premier Boxing Champions is back with the latest edition of their "Next Round" series, with a pair of heavyweight veterans facing off in the main event, and two undefeated prospects in the co-feature.
Tony "The Tiger" Thompson (40-5, 27 KO) will face Malik Scott (37-2-1, 13 KO) in the main event, set for 10 rounds. Thompson, a 44-year-old southpaw still fighting about as well as he ever has, is 4-3 in his last seven fights, but those have all come against quality opposition, too. The four wins have been two apiece against David Price and Odlanier Solis, while his losses have come to Wladimir Klitschko, Kubrat Pulev, and Carlos Takam, all top ten heavyweights right now. Thompson himself still looks like a top ten heavyweight.
Scott, 35, used to be known as "80-72" because of the way he handled his fights, winning routine eight round shutout decisions against inferior opposition. He's 2-2-1 in his last five bouts, starting with a controversial draw against Vyacheslav Glazkov in 2013. He's been stopped by Dereck Chisora and Deontay Wilder since then, and last time out won a near shutout over 10 rounds against Alex Leapai in Australia.
The co-feature might be more interesting for diehard fans, as 140-pound prospects Lydell "Hackman" Rhodes (23-0-1, 11 KO) and Sergey Lipinetz (7-0, 6 KO) square off in another ten-round bout. Rhodes, 28, is coming off of an eight-round draw against Jared Robinson on June 21, and feels like a stalled prospect right now. Lipinets, 26, turned pro 18 months ago and has already beaten some decent veterans.
