Thurman vs Porter fight looks to be on for January

Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter are apparently on for January, but where will the fight be broadcast?

According to Steve Kim, the much-rumored fight between standout welterweights Keith "One Time" Thurman and "Showtime" Shawn Porter is looking like it's on for January. Kim spoke to Porter's father and trainer, Kenny Porter, who said that the "network and actual venue" aren't set yet, but that he has word from Al Haymon that the fight is a done deal.

The original idea was to put Thurman and Porter on Showtime, with December 12 as the date. But as that night drew closer and closer, speculation that there could be a delay or even stalled negotiations began to creep in. A few days ago, it was reported that the fight was being pushed back into 2016, which came as no surprise.

Now, with it looking like the fight is good to go, we can breathe a little easier. It's a really strong matchup in the 147-pound division, pitting unbeaten Thurman (26-0, 22 KO) against former IBF titleholder Porter (26-1-1, 16 KO in a matchup that sort of signals the beginning of a new, post-Mayweather/Pacquiao era of the 147-pound division.

One thing worth considering is the open January 23 date for the PBC on FOX premiere, which would give Premier Boxing Champions a great fight to give to their newest network partner to kick off their relationship. Right now, FOX is signed up for three dates, but if they get some strong results early, that could balloon in no time.
