Although nothing has been made official just yet, it seems to be only a matter of time before a December 12 welterweight title fight between Keith "One Time" Thurman and "Showtime" Shawn Porter will be announced. The rumored bout was said earlier today to be headed to a December 12 date, and ESPN.com reports that Showtime will televise. The fight will take place in Las Vegas.
Thurman (26-0, 22 KO) would defend the WBA welterweight title against Porter (26-1-1, 16 KO), a former IBF titleholder who has rebounded from a 2014 loss to Kell Brook with PBC-televised wins this year over Erick Bone and Adrien Broner. Thurman has posted victories on PBC broadcasts over Robert Guerrero and Luis Collazo.
The two fighters have talked up the potential bout recently, over the past few weeks especially. They were photographed going nose-to-nose during the Mayweather-Berto fight weekend in Las Vegas, which seemingly upped the chances of the bout taking place.
If it all comes together as being reported right now, that would mean Showtime has another terrific fight to close out 2015 in very strong fashion. Their schedule, which has been criticized heavily this year with the emergence of PBC taking many of "their" fighters to other networks, is packed right now, with a lot of notable fights: Kell Brook-Diego Chaves (Oct. 24); Ruslan Provodnikov-TBA (tentative Nov. 7); Gary Russell Jr-Oscar Escandon (Nov. 14); James DeGale-Lucian Bute (Nov. 28); and Daniel Jacobs-Peter Quillin (Dec. 5). There will also be a pair of ShoBox events on October 23 and November 6.
