Erislandy Lara has an opponent for his scheduled November 25 main event on ESPN, where he'll take on former welterweight titleholder Jan Zaveck on the Premier Boxing Champions broadcast, defending the WBA junior middleweight belt.
Lara (21-2-2, 12 KO) last fought on June 12, easily outpointing Delvin Rodriguez in a PBC on Spike main event. The 32-year-old Cuban southpaw won the interim WBA "world" belt in 2013 against Alfredo Angulo, and was bumped to "world" title status before his 2014 fight against Ishe Smith. Floyd Mayweather was the WBA's "super world" champion during that period.
Zaveck (35-3, 19 KO) has been off the U.S. radar since a 2013 loss to Keith Thurman, and has won three straight fights in Germany and Slovenia since then, none against contenders. He also lost to Andre Berto back in 2011, and to Rafal Jackiewicz in 2008. Now 39, Zaveck is at the very back end of his career, and isn't likely to be seen as a legitimate threat to Lara.
What do you think of the matchup? Is this worthwhile, or another PBC main event worth the criticism?
