Golden Boy prospects Joseph Diaz Jr and Frankie Gomez are set to return to action on October 23 at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, with their fights televised on Estrella TV, and streaming live via The RING.
Diaz (17-0, 10 KO) will take on veteran Ruben Tamayo (23-6-4, 15 KO) in the 10-round featherweight main event. The 22-year-old Diaz, a 2012 U.S. Olympian, has been very impressive thus far as a pro. Tamayo, 26, has lost his last two bouts, against Jesus Cuellar and Oscar Valdez, a top featherweight and a top prospect, respectively. He was stopped in four by Cuellar and beaten over 10 rounds by Valdez.
Gomez (18-0, 13 KO) will face another veteran, Jorge Silva (21-9-2, 17 KO) in a 10-round welterweight bout. The 23-year-old "Pitbull" Gomez last fought on July 25, routing Vernon Paris over 10 rounds. That came after he missed weight by six pounds for a scheduled HBO bout in May against Humberto Soto. Silva, 23, has become a regular on Golden Boy cards since a 2012 draw with Yoshihiro Kamegai, but has gone just 2-7 in his last nine fights.
