Juan Carlos Salgado has dropped out of Friday's fight with Zab Judah due to an injured ankle he suffered during training, derailing Judah's comeback hopes once again. Because we were just days away from the scheduled fight, the promoter was unable to find a suitable late replacement and had to cancel the entire card altogether.
"Salgado has pulled out with an ankle injury. He sent valid medical documentation," promoter Greg Cohen told ESPN.com. "On such short notice it's essentially impossible to find a suitable replacement. We are working with the venue and the network to reschedule as soon as possible. Truly disappointing."
Judah hasn't fought since losing to Paulie Malignaggi in December 2013 in a fight where he looked absolutely done as a viable contender. With a lot of time off after that fight, and a lot of training, Judah was hoping to show that he still had something left to offer. But for now, he'll have to keep waiting -- and the 38-year-old isn't getting any younger.
Just a short while ago, Judah was supposed to make his comeback in September against Hevinson Herrera, but a scuffle between the two fighters at the weigh-in caused Herrera to pull out of the fight, also citing an an injury. That card did, however, go on as scheduled.
