Tonight on pay-per-view, Ronda Rousey returns to action in the main event of UFC 193, facing former boxing champion Holly Holm. Given the fact that we did special coverage a few years ago for Randy Couture's fight with James Toney, it's only right and consistent that we do the same here.
Holm, 34, fought as a pro boxer from 2002-13, and entered MMA starting in 2011, making her UFC debut in 2014. She's won a pair of fights in the MMA major league, but the 28-year-old Rousey is a different level of competition than, well, anyone else, and certainly a leap up from the likes of Raquel Pennington and Marion Reneau.
Holm is expected to be obliterated in this fight, quite frankly -- Rousey has won her last three fights in 16 seconds, 14 seconds, and 34 seconds, against fighters who were more legitimate contenders to her throne than Holm. But it's interesting enough that it's kicked up a lot of discussion, even if most of that discussion is, "Oh, dear, Holly doesn't really stand a chance here."
If more seasoned, top MMA contenders haven't been able to do much of anything with Rousey, what can Holm do? That's the question. And at any rate, if you're watching tonight but too casual to join in the discussion at Bloody Elbow, MMA Mania, or MMA Fighting, here's a safe haven for you curious boxing fans who may be tuning in.
