Blue Chip welterweight prospect Errol Spence (18-0, 15 KOs) is fighting Alejandro Barrera (28-2, 18 KOs) this Saturday in Dallas (a PBC on NBC card at 3pm EST). The good news for both men is that this fight has just been upgraded to a world title eliminator by the IBF.
Meanwhile, current IBF welterweight titlist Kell Brook has been mandated to negotiate a fight with his mandatory challenger in Kevin Bizier. Once Brook and Bizier settle their business in early 2016, the winner of Spence-Barrera will be ordered to fight the IBF's leading available contender to come up with the next mandatory challenger for the Brook-Bizier winner. That means Errol Spence could get his first world title shot by next summer/fall.
For now, this weekend's Spence-Barrera fight will co-headline the PBC card which will also feature Jermell Charlo (22-0, 17 KOs) vs. "Silky" Wilky Campfort (21-1, 12 KOs). Our very own Patrick L. Stumberg will be covering the round-by-round analysis for Bad Left Hook.
